Solid Waste Transfer Site Attendant

Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the operation of the Solid Waste Transfer Site and the proper collection of such material as is necessary to maintain a clean and orderly operation, not creating a nuisance to adjoining properties and landowners.

Duties Performed:
Assists the public in the distribution of waste in proper locations; Operates equipment to load and transport waste to the landfill; keep work site in a clean and presentable manner; operates computerized scales, weighing in loads of waste.

Supervision Received: Foreman or Road and Bridge/Solid Waste Supervisor

Machines, tools and equipment used:
Operates the backhoe, Front end loader, scraper, dozer crawler tractor, transport truck and computerized scales

Working Conditions:
Works in all types of weather, from the extreme of cold in the winter to hot in the summer. This position may work odd schedules to accommodate the use of the Transfer Site by the general public.

Job Specifications:

Physical requirements:
Must be able to withstand temperature extremes from hot to cold; works in an environment that is often unsanitary and may require attendant to handle toxic or hazardous materials. May be required to sit or stand for long periods of time. May be required to lift up to eighty pounds occasionally and up to sixty pounds frequently.

Educational requirements:
High school diploma or equal

Special skills:
Good people skills, as this is a front line position that has to deal with the general public on a regular basis. Must have a good mechanical aptitude that would enable the operator of the equipment to detect any malfunctions. Must have a valid Class “ A’ Commercial Drivers license with air brake endorsement.

Experience required:
Experience with heavy equipment operation and maintenance desired. Has shown proficiency in dealing with the public on a one to one basis, must have demonstrated good people skills in past employment.

Training required after hiring:
When offered, any equipment operational training schools or workshops, which are available, and fall within the budgetary restraints of the existing budget: Safety training as required.
