Sprayer/Applicator
Job Summary:
This position is a seasonal
position lasting less than 8 months, depending on weather, job demand
and budgeting. This position offers no benefits and requires employees
to work with chemical herbicides on a full-time basis. Must be a
self-starter, highly motivated individual able to work with little or no
supervision.
Duties Performed:
Operate county spray equipment
for the purpose of controlling noxious weeds. Filling and mixing of all
chemical loads, working with herbicides; Responsible for general
maintenance of pickups, including oil changes, greasing, minor repairs,
cleanup, etc.; Perform other duties as assigned; Fill out all daily
paperwork including daily job tickets, spray reports, site reports,
etc.; Responsible for maintenance of spray trailers including assisting
the public with the rental process (hooking up to vehicle, checking
fluids, start motor, inspect pump, booms, nozzles, handgun); Triple
rinsing and disposal of chemical containers in the manner directed by
the label.

Machines, tools and equipment used:
Spray trucks equipped with
Tee-jet or boom-buster systems, 4 x 4 ATVs with attached spray units;
torch/welders, assorted hand and power tools.
Working Conditions:
Individuals will be working
outdoors on a full-time basis. Applicators in contact with chemicals on
a daily basis, to include 2-4Ds and restricted use pesticides.
Job Specifications:
Physical requirements:
Position is physically
demanding, must be in good physical condition. Is required to work in
and around tall vegetation as well as climb steep, rugged terrain. Must
be tolerant of extreme heat, long hours in direct sun and other variable
weather conditions. Must be able to lift minimum of 50 pounds.
Applicators must be able to pull 300 feet of handgun hose in all types
of terrain. Long periods of walking, standing, sitting, depending on job
assignment.
Educational requirements:
High school diploma or equal
Special skills:
Comprehend precise instructions
of chemical ratios and label instructions. Needs mechanical knowledge.
Professional pesticide applicator’s license required at least 30 days
after being hired. Must have a current valid drivers license.
Experience required:
Previous application experience
is desirable but not necessary..
Training required after hiring:
Read MSDS sheets that pertain to
chemicals used by county applicators and sign a statement verifying
they’ve read and understood all liabilities of working with said
chemicals. Learn to identify weeds on the Idaho noxious weed list by
sight.
Additional Comments:
Must be able to and be responsible for decisions regarding sensitive areas, wind, and other variables while in the field; deal tactfully with complaints.
