Enterprise Facilitator

Job Summary:
Works under the direction of a local board; assisting new, existing and expanding businesses, on one-on-one format; performs all related work necessary to accomplish the goals and objectives of the program. This is classified as an exempt position.

Duties Performed:
Implement the policy decisions and the directions of the board; Uphold and adhere to the policies and the by-laws of the organization; Report regularly to the Chairman of the board on a day-to-day operations and insure that the board is fully informed of all organizational activities; Advise the board of directors in a timely fashion of any developments that may affect the organization’s well-being; Develop a network of communications at all levels of government and throughout the community; Efficiently manage the day-today operations of the Enterprise Facilitation office; Establish and maintain an efficient record keeping system; Prepare budgetary and financial statements to the board of directors with the assistance of the treasurer and finance committee; Provide a detailed report on the activities carried out each month; Conduct business research for clients as is consistent with the aims and objectives of the project; represent the project to other organizations, the media, and the public at large in consultation with the board; Maintain the confidentiality of all sensitive information; and perform all other duties that may be directed by the board of directors from time to time in relation to the further development of the Enterprise facilitation project in the region.

Business retention and expansion:
Typical responsibilities; answers inquiries concerning small-business loans; advises businesses with expansion plans of various market development, financing, job training, and business planning resources; evaluates business expansion potential of a potential community; coordinates with state, federal, and regional sources to assist in business expansion; provides technical assistance to local governments in identifying business expansion by planning adequate infrastructure.

 
Coordination and liaison:
Typical responsibilities; works with the Idaho Department of Commerce, a local board of directors, local units of government, chambers of commerce, and local government development groups on a broad range of economic development activities; serves as liaison with various governmental agencies, local community groups, and private sector organizations; may act as a community advocate in expanding new business

Job Specifications:            
Physical requirements:
May sit for extended periods of time. May be required to lift up to 30 pounds, occasionally lifting such items as files, cases of photocopy paper, etc.          
Educational requirements:
Any combination of education and experience which demonstrates good knowledge of: local business opportunities and economic conditions, business assistance programs and sources; economic development marketing concepts; community economic development practices.
Special skills:
The person hired for this position must be: An excellent communicator, able to reach a wide cross-section of the community (from wealthy business people to unemployed young people on the dole); A resourceful “go-getter” able to find information, money, volunteers and resources, including “governmental resources” on demand; A “people-person,” that is, someone who enjoys mixing with people and helping them achieve their dreams; A skilled public relations person able to win friends and supporters both within the community and the media; A self-motivated, mature person who needs no supervision and who is “performance motivated” more than “task motivated;” A person who has a quick and practical business mind with a “nose” for good, viable, sustainable enterprises and be able to assess the strength, character and motivation of the person behind an idea; Must have a current valid drivers license.
Experience required:
Any combination of education and experience, which demonstrates good knowledge of: local business opportunities and economic conditions, business assistance programs and sources; Small business experience is very desirable..
Training required after hiring:
An intensive five-day training session will be provided, with follow-up training over a two-year period.
Membership Organizations:
Membership in any community organizations such as Chambers of Commerce, church groups, service organizations, school organizations, or any organization that promotes civic mindedness and community unity.
