Dispatcher/Sheriff’s Office

Job Summary:
Dispatchers are the main communication link between emergency services; Receive calls and dispatch Law Enforcement Officers and/or Agencies, Ambulance Service and Fire Departments as needed or requested.

Duties Performed:
Answer incoming calls and dispatch appropriate personnel, i.e. fire departments (Weiser Rural, Weiser City, mutual aid), ambulance services (Weiser, Cambridge, Midvale), Weiser City Police, Washington County Deputies, and Idaho State Police.
Record radio traffic on tapes and maintain written radio logs; Make log entries (onto county computer system) on all necessary calls; Enter wanted persons, stolen property, protection orders, missing persons into the *NCIC or IHOTS systems (teletype); Assist jail staff on female inmate searches; Help maintain security of the jail from dispatch (control of interior and exterior doors, lights, televisions, phones and cameral monitors); Operate under all FCC laws and regulations; Check criminal history records and drivers license history for authorized agencies and files; Performs other related duties as required.

Radio console, Emergency Medical Service radio, tape recording device, teletype, computer, telephone system with seven incoming lines, fax machine

Working Conditions:
Duties are performed in a controlled environment. Dispatchers receive many incoming calls, including some parties that may be hostile, angry, ill, suicidal or scared, which can be very stressful.

Job Specifications:

Physical Requirements:
Requires sitting for prolonged periods of time, many times in extreme situations, with either no people contact for long periods of time, or periods of time when all telephones and radio contact is at maximum capacity, which can be very stressful

Educational Requirements:
High School Diploma or equal

Special Skills:
Must have the ability to ascertain information from callers and especially from those that may be extremely emotional. Must have a current valid drivers license.

Experience Required:
None, but experience desired with operation of a multi-line telephone system and a mobile radio operation dispatching

Training Required After Hiring:
Must have **ILETS basic & advanced certification within 6 months of hire; Must attend Peace Officers Standards and Training, Basic Dispatch Training; Other training includes Suicide Intervention, Medical Dispatch, Advanced Dispatch Training
