Detention Officer/ Sheriff’s Office
Job Summary:
Maintaining the overall security
of the Washington County Jail.
Duties Performed:
Booking/receiving inmates, using
the law enforcement computer program; Supervision of inmates and inmate
workers; Transporting inmates to and from court appearances, other
facilities and medical appointments; Dispensing of prescription and
non-prescription medications; Court security; Monitoring inmate
visitation; Taking cash and security bonds after hours and weekends for
the District Court. Perform other related duties as required.

Working Conditions:
Primary duties are performed in
a controlled environment, a lockup detention facility. Many functions of
employment pose a high degree of hazard; uncertainty in working with
inmates, such as, inmates arrested that under the influence of alcohol
and/or drugs. .
Job Specifications: Physical requirements:
Must pass the Police Officers Standards and
Training physical fitness test
Educational requirements:
High school diploma or equal
Special skills:
Ability to deal with diverse and
sometimes hostile situations
Experience required:
None.
Training required after hiring:
Police Officers Standards and
Training Academy for Detention Officers within one year of hire (5 week
academy); Employee, must qualify with duty weapon every 6 months
Additional Comments:
All applicants undergo a
fingerprint clearance by the Idaho Dept. of Law Enforcement (Bureau of
Criminal Identification) and FBI; Applicant, must be free of any felony
or misdemeanor convictions and not have
driver's license suspensions from the previous five years.
